Our love for rare and beautiful objects isn't limited to those of the horological variety! In addition to our perpetual treasure hunt for great watches, we cast a wider net into the world of vintage objects, a practice that, since our founding, has yielded a trove of finds we happily share during the holiday season each year.
From vintage clocks to pocket knives, lighters to diving instrumentation, old-world ashtrays to desk sculptures — these are the types of mementos that heavily tug on our nostalgic heart strings and further sate our impulse for preservation and storytelling.
Unfortunately we can't keep them all...
This table lighter is a really special piece of aviation memorabilia. Crafted by legendary tobacconist Dunhill in the 1950s, this lighter is crafted in the silhouette of the North American F-86 Sabre jet fighter. One of the most advanced military aircraft of its day, the F-86 featured America's first swept-wing design, derived from seized German aircraft at the close of World War II. Powered by a single General Electric jet engine integrated into the fuselage, the F-86 held its own against Soviet MiGs during the Korean War and beyond.
This stunning piece commemorates the F-86's iconic silhouette with all metal construction, down to its integrated pedestal. Pressing the nose of the aircraft will activate a spring-loaded mechanism, popping the canopy of the cockpit, striking a flint, and activating its flame. The tactility of this operation is super rewarding, immediately showing the quality of construction throughout.
Measuring approximately 7”x 6” inches and standing nearly 3 1/2" tall in polished chrome, this is an eye-catching design object in its own right - whether you use it for setting things aflame or not!
